An effective digital strategy is increasingly important for brands large and small. Customers evaluate the digital presence of a brand very closely when deciding if it’s right for them or not. The problem is that this is becoming an increasingly difficult space to stand out in. Facebook is expensive, Instagram is overwhelmed and declining, SEO is time-consuming and the list of challenges goes on.
Over the past decade, digital marketing has unleashed a powerhouse of tools and platforms to seek out and reach customers. However, finding ways to stand out can be a challenge.
Enter TikTok
There are an estimated 800 million active users monthly on TikTok. That’s a lot of potential new customers. Despite its astonishing growth, TikTok is largely being used by individuals to share content. With the exception of a handful of brands, most companies have yet to create or properly integrate a TikTok strategy into their digital marketing campaigns. This is a huge missed opportunity as TikTok is currently the fastest growing social media platform on the planet and best of all its still free to get brand exposure.
We think it is absolutely essential for brands to begin creating strategies to incorporate TikTok, below are a few ideas to get you started.
- Include your audience. Engagement drives social media content so challenge your viewers to participate. For example, if you’re in the fashion industry, challenge your viewers to try on garments from your brand, in the most creative way possible. Make it a contest with the best video winning shopping spree with 3 of their friends.
- Edit, edit, and do some more editing. Content on TikTok can be more than just dance challenges and cats… Exploring the tools available to make visually stunning videos could be the piece that sets you apart from your competitors.
- Influencers are still kings and queens. Love them or hate them, influencers still dominate social media, and the power they wield over TikTok is no exception. In early December police were called to the Eaton Center shopping mall in downtown Toronto after thousands of people descended on the mall within an hour after an impromptu meet and greet was promoted by TikTok influencers. No amount of Facebook advertising or Instagramming is going to get you that kind of attention. It is all TikTok.
Lean Into Video
Lean into the power that is video. Not everything that is new and shiny is worth a second look, but once a new platform like TikTok starts to take off you need to quickly pivot your digital marketing strategy to get ahead of the wave rather than continually lag behind it.
